(Caution: All my posts are from my past experiences. I may come back here to back up my points, maybe with scientific evidence but for now, I just wanna finish this post. Hah!)
I have been playing games since I was a kid and my first game was from GameBoy. Man, gone were the days where we can connect to each other GameBoy to swap pokemons. What a memory.
Fast forward to today, my main game is Final Fantasy XIV, an MMORPG game and currently the only game that I am willing to subscribe monthly (To be honest, I subscribe for 6 months to save some money lol). I do play other games too but that’s the part where I’ll write about which games do you choose to spend your time, which games do you skip and which games do you rather watch on YouTube. I can say that I’m currently one of the few gamers who would rather watch Youtube walkthrough videos rather than going through the slogs of gameplays. This is mainly for older games like most Final Fantasy games and I just want to understand the lores! We’ll talk about this later.
I have played many games, spending countless hours into improving my gameplays. Games such as Dota 2, Counter Strike 2 (formerly Counter Strike: Global Offensive and more formerly, the very infamous Counter Strike 1.6), Valorant, Guild Wars 2, FFXIV, and more recently Helldivers 2.
I have met many different people throughout my gaming life, young and old, patient and toxic, quiet and obnoxiously loud, etc.. This is almost like meeting many type of colleagues when you are working! Well, it’s the almost the same, just that you can’t meet some of the gaming friends face-to-face. Some are in totally different countries, where the furthest friend I have known is from Brazil!
Nonetheless, I have acquired many useful skills from gaming, ranging from hand-eye coordination to emotional intelligence. Yes, you read that right – emotional intelligence. If you are a sensible gamer and depending on the type of games you play, you will learn that you have to deal with various gaming friends, ranging from one who refuse to admit mistakes to the one who has trouble with tunnel vision in high-end contents. How do you deal with them? Next post, of course. Can’t fit all of my writings into this introductory post!
Last but not least, and this might be the question that will spring in your mind as you get older. Is all the time spent in gaming worthless? Well, yes and no. If you spend majority of your time cursing, blaming and getting frustration with your teammates (or yourself), then you are playing a wrong game. If you are having fun and gain relationships with other gamers, then you are playing a right game. If you are mindlessly grinding for hours and then get frustrated, then you are playing a wrong game.
I’m not here to judge which game to play. That’s all up to you. But I will be giving tips on which games is suitable for you and which to avoid.
Till then.
